Southport Falcons Donate to KCC Library
On October 25th, residents of the Southport Community hosted their annual Book Festival to celebrate their love for literature. The festival brings together members of it's community for author talks, fresh cranberry breads, and a giant book swap. This year they chose the Kenneth C. Coombs Library as the recipient of their fundraising. Our Librarian Mrs. Smith and Assistant Principal Mr. Prehna accepted the $75 donation from members; Lori LaBrecque, Barbara Kidd, Linda Zevitas and Sheila Daly.

THE PTO is requesting support for the Giving Tree Event, Friday December 9th, 6-8 PM.

1. Seeking singers or suggestions from our KC Coombs family & friends, for someone willing to lead a holiday chorus as part of our entertainment lineup.
2. Considering a new artificial tree this season? Seeking holiday tree donation, PTO is willing to pick up.

No Cost COVID-19 Tests

Thanks to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), The Executive Office of Health and Human Services, the Department of Health, and Barnstable Public Schools for working with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to provide at-home COVID-19 tests at no cost to public school districts, including charter schools, approved special education schools, and collaboratives. These tests are intended for use by students and staff to support the return to school process after Thanksgiving and Winter breaks. We recommend tests be used no sooner than 24 hours prior to returning to school after these holiday breaks. Test kits are anticipated to arrive  for Mashpee students and staff 11/19/22 and will be distributed to all students to take home via backpack by their homeroom/classroom teachers Monday and Tuesday 11/21/22 and 11/22/22 and to staff in their mailboxes at their schools/primary work location by these dates.

Notes from the Health Office
As noted in the Parent/Student Handbook, students must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication and 24 hours free of GI illness symptoms, eating and drinking normally  prior to returning to school.

As we enter cold and flu season we wanted to share these illness prevention strategies:

• Avoid contact with people who are ill. If you are ill, stay home. Confine yourself to your bedroom to protect your loved ones. If your loved ones are ill, do your best to avoid contact.

• Cover your mouth and nose. The flu and RSV are spread by coughing, sneezing, and unclean hands.

• Wash your hands. Use soap and water to keep hands clean, especially after coughing and sneezing. When soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer.

• Abstain from touching your nose and eyes. Germs can be spread from these orifices.

• Keep your home and work areas clean. Disinfect surfaces often.

• Prevent illness by getting rest, staying active, eating well, and staying hydrated.

• Talk to your health care provider about getting a flu shot.
