Walk for Water

Good Day!
My name is Sadie Biehl and I am a graduating senior this year. Currently I am the President of the Key Club and for my Senior project I have planned a "Walk for Water" on Sunday, November 6th from 9am to 11am at the Mashpee Commons.
The Key Club is sponsoring this walk in collaboration with HOSA and the Human Rights Clubs. This walk consists of walking 1-2 miles around the Commons prior to the store's opening. You may start your walk anytime between 9-11 AM. (Registration takes place at the bandshell). The walk begins at the Bandshell on Steeple Street and will end in front of Siena Restaurant. At 11:00 AM we will have a raffle for all registered walkers. You can win a Mashpee Commons gift card or a gift card from area restaurants.
All proceeds will benefit the Thirst Project, an organization that raises money to build wells in villages that do not have access to clean water. The Thirst Project was started in Southern California by seven college students and has since grown into a massive student lead project across the United States that has provided clean drinking water to over 500,000 people. Our goal is to raise $12,500 which will fund one well for 450 people for 30+ years.
The recommended donation amount for students is $10, and for adults it is $20. Participants can either walk a one-mile loop or a two-mile loop. If you cannot walk but would like to donate checks can be mailed to:
MMHS Key Club
500 Old Barnstable Road
Mashpee, MA 02649
Please join us in supporting this amazing cause to save families!

Community Helpers!
Last week PreK learned about Community Helpers and was so excited to be visited by our incredible School Resource Officers, Officer Katie Hennessey and Officer Pete Cogswell! They taught us about the important jobs they do, the tools they use, how they keep us safe, and ways we can stay safe, too! We got to visit their cruisers outside and even got to push some buttons to make the sirens go off! Thank you Officer Katie and Officer Pete for keeping Mashpee safe.

Health Office News and Notes:
October is National Dental Hygiene Month. I would like to share these dental tips for a healthy smile: Brush at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Remember that brushing regularly promotes a clean mouth and fresh breath. Floss every day.  Visit your dentist regularly. Email me you need assistance finding a local dental provider.  sschakel@mpspk12.org
Follow the suggested healthy snack guidelines from our Wellness Policy.  Polished Dental will be at KCC Oct. 26th  for those students who signed up. Please remember to email any time your child will be absent or tardy with the reason to KCCattendance@mpspk12.org

Read to Me Program at KCC!

Read to Me at KCC is an early childhood literacy program where volunteers read to pre-K children to increase exposure of the children to books, pictures and stories and foster a love for reading.  Twice each month we go into the classrooms and read one-on-one to a child.  The commitment is about 2 hours every two weeks, typically on Thursdays from around 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

"As a volunteer myself, I can say that it is both rewarding and fun.  The children (and teachers!) are always very excited to see us as we bond over the course of the year.  It's wonderful to see the children engage and watch their imaginations emerge." -Collette Shaw

PreK Field Trip to The Barn on Benson's Pond
Benson’s Pond is a family-run farm, working cranberry bog, wedding venue, and proud member of the Ocean Spray Cooperative in Middleboro, MA. Our PreK students learned more about cranberries and how they are harvested. Cranberries are one of 3 fruits native to North America, along with blueberries and concord grapes, and one of only 2 native fruits grown on Cape Cod.
