Authors and Illustrators at KCC!
Maine natives, John and Ann Hassett came to KCC to read two of their books to our second graders. This husband and wife duo have been writing and illustrating picture books for more than twenty-five years. The students heard two of their stories: Mouse in the House and Cat up a Tree. The students were then taught the process of how to make a book and presented with a drawing lesson. Thank you to our author and illustrator for visiting our creative school community!

KCC PTO 7th Annual Falcon Dance Off
Parents, and businesses, look out for sponsorship requests coming your way either in the mail or flyers from our students, for t-shirts and donation fundraising!

As the PTO's largest fundraiser, WITH YOUR HELP,  we  can continue making KCC a “great place to learn and grow.” The Falcon Dance Off dance day is Friday, May 12th with active fundraising kicking off on May 3rd. More information will come home closer to those dates.

Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race
On Thursday, the second grade classes participated in a live presentation to wrap up their study of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. This special event, funded by the KCC PTO, featured an authentic dog sled, real dogs, and mushing equipment. A few students, and even Dr. Goulart, were able to participate as the audience learned about the race.  Our students' did an amazing job of answering the presenter's questions, and she was very impressed with their knowledge of the race! Thanks to the KCC PTO, each student was also given their own copy of Balto of the Blue Dawn, a Magic Tree House book about the origin of the Iditarod.

The Coalition for Children

Due to inclement weather on Saturday, the Annual Easter Egg Hunt is being moved to the rain date. This event will happen on Sunday, April 2nd at 1:00 PM

Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race
On Monday, Grade 2 students participated in a virtual visit with Terry Lynn Johnson, the author of Sled Dog School. They have been listening to the book during Library classes in conjunction with their study of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. During the visit, students were treated with stories from the author's experience, both as a musher and author, as well as visuals of the equipment used in sled dog racing. They were very engaged in the presentation and came up with some really great questions for the author at the end of the visit!

Ramadan
Emaan and Salman, from Amy Cullum's class, read Celebrating Ramadan to Mary Russell's first class. Students were really engaged and learned about Ramadan. The experience was especially meaningful to Salman's cousin, Muhammad (Gr. 1 Russell) as this was his first Ramadan in the United States. To learn more about Ramadan, please click the links!

Constellations!
Students in Ms. Cullum's class were learning about constellations as part of the Wonders unit, "What can we see in the sky?"

Boston University Research
I am Charlotte, the research coordinator for project SPROUT at the Center for Autism Research Excellence at Boston University. We are currently seeking participants for the SPROUT study. Project SPROUT is investigating changes in expressive language and social communication in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders over the course of the play-based intervention, JASPER. The study provides 10 weeks of free intervention! I was wondering if you could share this opportunity with parents who believe their children would benefit from the study. Children who are suspected of having ASD and children with a diagnosis of developmental delay are encouraged to apply.

I have attached a link to our website and our flyer for your reference. Please let me know if you have any questions about SPROUT!
