Remember if your child has springtime allergies it's not too early to start their
springtime allergy medications!
Nearly two million children have some type of allergy. Allergies are abnormal immune system reactions to triggers like foods, dust, plant pollen, insect stings, latex or medicines that are harmless to most people. Unfortunately there is no cure for allergies, only symptomatic relief. The most effective method for minimizing allergy symptoms is to reduce or eliminate exposure to allergens.
At this time of year many individuals find themselves wondering if they are suffering from a cold, COVID or allergy symptoms. Many of the symptoms of cold, COVID and allergies can be very similar. Each may give you a runny nose, watery eyes, nasal congestion and sneezing. The classic allergy symptom you will NOT experience with a cold or COVID is itching. Individuals with allergies often have itchy eyes, nose, and sometimes itchy ears and mouth.A cold and COVID, however, which is caused by a viral infection, typically lasts for 5-10 days, while allergy symptoms last much longer. A cold and COVID may also give you a fever, sore throat and make you feel achy all over. If you or your child continues to have symptoms please see your primary care physician or allergist. We also encourage the use of antigen home tests. Good hand washing is also very important along with using tissues as needed.
Video Games and Inappropriate Shows:
Unfortunately, the staff at KCC is hearing from several of our students that they have watched (or heard about) some very inappropriate and graphic videos and shows. When the children mention the various titles to us, the administration takes a look at the content, which in this case is quite frightening. We know that many families have older children who may be watching or just talking about certain topics and shows, and some of the kiddos that have mentioned these videos to us don’t really know what they are; however, some of our students have watched some of these videos or shows. The shows are graphic and filled with violence. The language is definitely not meant for the ears of our children. We ask that you monitor your child’s electronic devices and take whatever steps are necessary to block these types of shows. We can help with the technology if you need support. You're Invited! ROCK YOUR SOCKS for World Down Syndrome Day! On March 21st, KCC will be rocking our colorful, fun, and mismatched socks to celebrate our uniqueness and to raise public aware for the rights, inclusion and well-being pf people with Down Syndrome!
Ms. Richmond’s fun sight word game that we have played this week! The kids pick a piece of paper, read the sight word, crumple up the paper and try to throw it in the basket on top of her head! They love it and it is just so much fun. Madelyn M in our class was the big winner and the kids gathered around and celebrated her. Such a sweet class :)

PTO Meeting Recap! Thank you to all of the parents and KCC staff who attended our first in person meeting since before the pandemic. There was a great turn out! Thank you to the older students who babysat the younger children. There is a lot happening as the end of the school year winds down! The PTO funded a 1st grade project as well as allocated funds for a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Day at KCC on April 29th! More information will be coming about STEM Day and the PTO’s biggest fundraiser, the KCC Dance Off! With the end of the school year fast approaching, our incredible PTO board will be moving on as many will no longer have children at KCC.
