The Falcon Eye 8/26/2022

Welcome Back to KCC!
With summer winding down and as leaves start to turn, the excitement is building for the first day of school! We cannot wait to have the building buzzing again with staff and children! Right now is a great time to start to get back into school schedules and routines too. Check out this article for some good suggestions on stress free mornings. When students arrive, staff will be greeting students and assisting students to their classrooms. We cannot wait to see you.

Health Office

Welcome Back to a GREAT school year. The health office is available to provide first aid and emergency care and illness assessment as needed. Illnesses occurring during the school day will be evaluated, and the student will either be sent home or allowed to rest in the health office and then return to class at the discretion of the school nurse. If you wish to be notified each time your child visits the health office please send in a written note requesting this so all staff will be made aware of this request. Please send your child to school with a change of clothing including underwear and socks in their backpack. In order to ensure health and safety, it is important to follow the guidelines and protocols noted below. If your child requires medications/treatments during school hours, it is necessary to remember the following as noted in the student/parent handbook:
  • Physician medication orders and parent consent forms need  to be renewed and submitted each school year.  Medications given last year are not given this year without these forms.

  • Medications must be in the original container with the medication name and current date for each medication.

  • You must sign and complete a parent consent form for each medication.

  • You must provide a signed doctor’s order form for each medication.

  • Medications must be delivered by an adult to school to the health office. These procedures also include all over the counter medications. Please email me to arrange for a drop off time. I will also be present at the PK/K orientation night 8/31/22 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM.

Please feel free to stop by or contact the health office at (508)539-1520 ext. 104 or e-mail: sschakel@mpspk12.org. I look forward to working with you this year. Please also remember to email KCCattendance@mpspk12.org by 9:00 AM every time your child is absent with the reason for absence. If your child is sick please keep them home until they are 24 hrs without symptoms/fever free for 24 hrs without fever reducing medication or cleared by their primary care physician.

Falcon Eye Summer Edition 3

Transportation Information
Please be on the lookout for bus information in the mail. In the envelopes you'll find a bus tag with your child's information on it. Please attach this tag to the outside of your child's backpack like Jiji. Attach the tag whether your child rides the bus or not. This will help staff identify students when they arrive to school.  Please make sure to complete the blue form and return it with your child on their first day. Bus routes will be coming out soon!
Each grade level was given a different color bus tag: Kindergarten is red, 1st Grade is Blue and 2nd Grade is Yellow. If your child is attending preschool or PreK, transportation tags will be given out at orientation.

AM/PM Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures:
The morning and afternoon drop off/pick up procedures are extremely important to follow. The safety of our students, staff and families is of utmost importance. When entering KCC, please drive slowly and be attentive to the road. There will be a staff member (usually Mr. Prehna) directing traffic. Follow all directions from him as this will allow traffic to move smoothly. When dropping students off either at the front of the school or at the side, parents/guardians must follow all staff directions.  Many families will be dropping off so your patience in this process is crucial and being efficient will make things move smoothly. This process is for all students being dropped off by parents/guardians at KCC. At no point may vehicles pass other vehicles while approaching the building or when leaving. Please review the maps provided below.
  • Quick Tips for a Smooth Transition:
    • Children need to remain buckled until it is time for them to come out of the car.
    • Please have all student belongings ready with your child.
    • Quick hugs/kisses, fist bumps and high fives goodbye
    • Wait for the vehicles in front of you to drive away unless directed differently by staff.

PreSchool, Prek - 2nd: AM Parent Drop Off Procedures 8:53 AM
*** Please be aware that you may be directed by Mr. Prehna in the morning to drop your child off at the bus loop before buses begin to arrive. Staff will also be there to assist students being dropped off. It is crucial to follow all staff directions and to be attentive during drop off and pick up times.***

Popsicles & Play is Canceled Tomorrow 8/11

Popsicles & Play

With inclement weather forecasted for tomorrow, we are canceling Popsicles & Play. We apologize for any inconvenience. The school year is right around the corner and we cannot wait to see everyone!

Extension of Universal Free School Meals:

With the signing of the FY23 state budget, Massachusetts has become the fifth state to provide state support to extend universal free meals beyond Congress’ expiration date of June 30, 2022. The new state funds will be used to supplement federal USDA reimbursements, allowing for National School Lunch Program meals to be provided to all students at no charge and to be reimbursed at the federal “free” rate during the 2022-23 school year.

However, it is still important that districts participate in direct certification of eligible families and for families to fill out income eligibility forms, because income eligibility numbers will be important in meal reimbursements to districts and for other benefits to families. (For instance, households that establish that their income qualifies them for free or reduced-price meals by August 31, 2022 will qualify for summer 2022 Pandemic EBT.)

On Tuesday, August 2, DESE’s Office for Food and Nutrition will provide initial guidance in its August newsletter. Additionally, Project Bread’s Child Nutrition Outreach Program has created resources to help school districts tell families about the extension of free school meals in Massachusetts. These resources include template language for a letter to families and for a robocall or robotext, and a social media toolkit.
